If you want to do hashtags, make sure your guests see the value - most people don't like to spam their own Instagram feeds with 50 photos a day so it makes it hard to get a good collection wihle using your hashtag. UNLESS - you do something really cool as Jenna talked about from her own wedding where guests could see their posts in live time during the event (so cool right?!).
Other great alternatives are out there to guarantee you have some beautiful photos from your guests like a shared drive, RFID buttons, live stream of people posting pictures.

Still, when you are attending a holiday event hosted by someone else it’s always great manners to show up with something. If you are lucky enough that they told you what to bring then the weight of the decision is lifted, but unfortunately this usually this only happens at family events that your immediate family member is hosting. 

It's especially helpful for young relationships navigating new family dynamics, baby's first holidays, and hosting for the first time. It’s very common for my family to bake hundreds of cookies, pack them and bring them cross-country for many of our cousin’s weddings and it means so much to everyone each time.
